The ethical implications of iBCIs, especially concerning neural data and system security, are profound and multifaceted. This Workgroup is motivated by the need to establish clear ethical guidelines that govern the use of iBCIs, ensuring that the rights and privacy of users are protected. The handling of neural data presents unique challenges, requiring specialized resources and protocols to safeguard sensitive information. Additionally, the security of iBCI systems, both within and outside clinical settings, is paramount to preventing unauthorized access and ensuring patient safety.

This Workgroup aims to address these critical issues by developing comprehensive guidance on ethics, data handling, and system security, thereby ensuring that iBCIs are used responsibly and securely.
